Emergencies
If you take regular medications, it is best to call and make an appointment with your physician when you fill your last refill, so you will not run out of them before you can be seen. Your pharmacy may not be able to ensure you don’t run out of essential prescriptions while waiting to get an appointment.
Phone requests from patients for prescription renewals are approved at your physician’s discretion. Even if you have been taking a prescription for a long time, it is still important for it to be reviewed periodically by your physician, to ensure it is still required and still best treats your condition.
Prescriptions for narcotics and sedatives will be for a maximum of 90 days, in accordance with The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta Standard of Practice.
